The mortgage production portion of the consumer banking segment grew by 8 percent up to $20.6 billion during the second quarter.Mortgage production includes first mortgage and home equity originations; the amount represents unpaid principal balance in the case of loans and the principal amount of the total line of credit in the case of home equity originations. The noninterest income portion of consumer banking dropped over-the-year from $2.71 billion down to $2.58 billion due to lower mortgage banking income, lower service charges, and the impact of certain divestiture, according to the report. The mortgage banking income in particular took a hit in Q2, falling over-the-year from $639 million in Q2 2015 all the way down to $44 million in Q2 2016 (it was $242 million in Q1 2016).Bank of America’s Chief Financial Officer, Paul Donofrio, said there were four items that caused the year-over-year decline in net income for the bank as well as the drop in mortgage banking income.“First, we sold an appraisal business last year, so there was revenue in last year’s second quarter that isn’t in this quarter,” Donofrio said. “Second, we had some servicing sales in the second quarter of last year for a gain that we didn’t have this quarter.”What will Bank of America’s earnings hold for Q3? Find out on Monday, October 17th at 8:30 A.M. EST.Thursday, October 20—Existing-Home Sales for September 2016, NARThe National Association of Realtors (NAR) reported a decline in the pace of existing-home sales for the second consecutive month in August, down to an annual rate of 5.33 million. The industry will see how existing-home sales fared in September when the NAR publishes the September 2016 report on Thursday, October 20.With affordability being a concern in some markets because of price appreciation outpacing wage growth and job gains, on the surface it seems like existing-home sales are down after hitting a post-crisis peak in June. But when compared with historical averages, things don’t look so bad for existing-home sales, according to NAR’s August 2016 EHS Over Ten Years report. The report showed that the total number of homes sold nationwide in August 2016 was higher than the 10-year August average, as was the total number of homes in all four regions.“Comparing August of 2006 to August of 2016 fewer homes were sold in 2016 in the US and all regions, the Northeast enduring the biggest decline of 51.4 percent,” said Michael Hyman of NAR. “The U.S. had a drop of 18.9 percent while the West had the smallest drop in sales at 8.3 percent over the 10-year period.”This week’s scheduleMonday, October 17Bank of America Q3 earnings reportTuesday, October 18Goldman Sachs Q3 earnings reportComerica Q3 earnings reportHousing Market Index for October 2016, National Association of Homebuilders, 10 a.m. ESTWednesday, October 19Morgan Stanley Q3 earnings reportU.S. Bancorp Q3 earnings reportHousing Starts for September 2016, HUD/Census Bureau, 8:30 a.m. ESTThursday, October 20BNY Mellon Q3 earnings reportExisting-Home Sales for September 2016, National Association of Realtors, 10 a.m. ESTFriday, October 21SunTrust Q3 earnings report The Best Markets For Residential Property Investors 2 days ago  Print This Post About Author: Kendall Baer Servicers Navigate the Post-Pandemic World 2 days agolast_img read more

Serie A: Inter Host Juventus in Top-of-table Clash

first_imgInter have an unprecedented opportunity to move five points clear at the top of the table should they be able to find the win.The odds slightly favour Inter, who have played at a consistently high level in Serie A this season. It would be rather absurd to pronounce Juventus as the underdogs for this game, but Inter certainly have the home advantage on their side. With a crowd of well over 50,000 spectators chanting for the Nerazzurri and booing Juventus, both sides will need optimal focus if they are to get anything out of the game. While Inter have had poor outings in the UEFA Champions League, they have been the best Italian team domestically so far this season. Winning six games out of six, they have picked up a maximum of 18 points.Juventus, on the other hand, won five out of six games, thanks to a goalless draw against Fiorentina. On the European front, the Bianconeri top their group followed closely behind by Spanish side Atletico Madrid. So far in this season’s Serie A, Inter have scored 13 goals. They have also been quite strong in possession, holding on to 56% possession on average per game, along with a passing accuracy of 87%. Most notably, the Nerazzuri average 17 shots per game, as well as 17 aerial duels won per game.Juventus, on the other hand, have managed just over 10 aerial duels won per game. While the possession and passing stats are similar for both sides, Juve notably have not had as much luck in the final third. Averaging 16 shots per game, they have scored 11 goals so far in the Serie A this season. The last time Inter beat Juventus in the Serie A, it was September 2016. Ever since, they have played twelve games, with Inter losing seven times, and drawing five.1966 was the last time Inter managed to win their first seven games. 53 years after, the Nerazzurri have a chance of achieving that feat again. They have won six so far, but the Old Lady stands in their way.Share this:FacebookRedditTwitterPrintPinterestEmailWhatsAppSkypeLinkedInTumblrPocketTelegram All eyes will be on the San Siro in Milan today when the reigning Serie A champions Juventus look to fend off the challenge of Antonio Conte’s new-look Inter Milan.FC Internazionale are preparing to invite the giants of Turin to San Siro for a clash that could see Juventus overtake the Nerazzurri by one point. The last time Inter faced Champions League disappointment midweek, they went into the weekend and destroyed AC Milan in the derby. Perhaps last Wednesday’s disappointment against Barcelona can have the same effect on the Nerazzurri when they line-up against the champions of the last eight seasons, Juventus.last_img read more

Cashless ATM extends banking’s reach

first_img2 September 2013South Africa’s First National Bank (FNB) has unveiled an innovative automatic teller machine (ATM) capable of delivering full digital banking via retail outlets to remote rural areas beyond the business reach of conventional ATMs.FNB’s Slimline ATM offers a large touch screen with an integrated camera, a card reader for CHIP and PIN enabled cards, and a numeric keypad.Instead of dispensing cash, the Slimline ATM issues a slip that can be cashed at a retailer’s till, crediting the retailer’s account and thus lowering the risk and cost of holding additional cash in the shop.FNB has already installed 960 Slimline ATMs in South Africa, and is extending Slimlines across its African subsidiaries, with installations under way in Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Swaziland and Tanzania.Aziz Cassim, head of self-service channels at FNB, described the Slimline as “a unique ATM designed specifically for emerging market and lower income needs”, adding: “Slimline also has great potential across all our market segments from personal to business and commercial due to its deep digital banking ability.”Access to an ATM is a critical when enabling greater access to banking. According to the Finscope Consumer Survey of 2012, people in the lowest income groups spend nearly 100% more time accessing an ATM than people in middle and upper income groups. The survey showed that poorer customers took 47 minutes to access an ATM while better-off customers were able to do this in 23 minutes.“Slimlines represent a wonderful, mutually beneficial relationship for the retailer, bank and customer,” Cassim said.“While our now-retired mini-ATMs offered typical kiosk banking or voucher banking, Slimline approximates online banking with PIN and image verification. The new devices offer a rich banking platform to customers in remote locations, and we plan to expand services in coming months.”SAinfo reporterlast_img read more

Winter Olympics will showcase agriculture (and curling)

first_imgShare Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest Not too long ago I was with some friends at a local eatery watching the television intently. The featured sport was curling.I do not claim to know much about the sport of curling, but here’s the gist. Players slide 44-pound, polished stones with flat bottoms on ice toward a target area (sort of like winter shuffle board). Each team has four players and eight stones and they try to get the stones positioned in the highest point categories. The stone is pushed down the ice by a curler and then sweepers vigorously sweep the ice with brooms to influence the path of the stone with hopes of bonking their opponents stones to lower scoring areas and putting theirs in the highest scoring positions. The place I was eating was very small and pretty much everyone present ended up watching curling very intently. I must say it was the most thought I’d ever given to curling, but that may change soon as it is time once again for the Winter Olympics and curling is, of course, among the many events. While curling may not be at the top of my viewing priority list for the 2018 Winter Olympics, I will certainly try to watch some because I really enjoy all things Olympic (even, on occasion, the figure skating, but they show waaaay too much of that in my opinion). I love the snowboarding, ski jumping, speed skating and downhill skiing. I will even be taking note of the uniforms this year being worn by the U.S. athletes in the opening and closing ceremonies because they will be showcasing a uniqueWinter grazing at Imperial Stock Ranch. Photo courtesy of Imperial Stock Ranch.partnership for U.S. agriculture. The Team USA uniforms were made with homegrown materials including wool direct from Imperial Stock Ranch, a 145-year-old family-owned sheep and cattle ranch in Oregon’s high desert. The ranch provided wool used for making the hats, sweaters, and other pieces in the opening and closing ceremony uniforms. As the price of wool declined in recent decades, Imperial Stock Ranch began to seek out ways to add value to its products.“Imperial Stock Ranch has been raising sheep, cattle, grains and hay since 1871. In 1999, we shifted from selling commodity wool and began a value-added business taking the raw wool to product and selling the wool products — one of which was yarn. That effort grew into multiple markets,” said Jeanne Carver, with Imperial Stock Ranch. “About 13 years later, we received a call from Ralph Lauren when they were conducting research for a Made in America program. That call led to a relationship between Ralph Lauren and Imperial Stock Ranch, and ultimately, Imperial Stock Ranch provided the wool yarns for the Opening Ceremony sweater for Team USA at the 2014 Winter Olympics and Paralympics in Sochi, Russia.”That relationship continued leading up to the 2018 Winter Olympics that start this week in PyeongChang, South Korea.“The Imperial Stock Ranch American Merino yarn program is used in the Opening Ceremony sweater and hat, and the Closing Ceremony sweater, hat and mittens for the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in PyeongChang,” Carver said. “We are humble yet proud to make a small contribution to the Team USA Collection.”The high quality end products they sell start with a focus on quality production on the ranch.“We have a long history of sheep and wool production. This is our 147th year. It begins with genetics,Photo courtesy of Imperial Stock Ranch.and our selection characteristics. Our sheep live on native grass lands in a rotational grazing management program, which is a very clean life and requires little to no inputs,” Carver said. “We ensure clean facilities prior to shearing, and then skirt and class the wool at shearing. We do not use paint on the wool and are very preventive with regard to any contamination. Having direct relationships with customers is a strong motivation for all our ranch crew to take extra care in guarding the quality and care of the wool clip.”The wool for the Olympic uniforms was spun into yarn by National Spinning Co., Inc., an employee-owned manufacturer and distributor based in North Carolina. From there the process continues with the help of numerous other U.S. businesses partnering with Ralph Lauren to produce the Olympic apparel designed to keep the athletes warm in the predicted frigid temperatures at the event.Though they would love to, the Carvers will not be making the trip to South Korea to see the wool from their ranch on display. They will be quite busy at home.“We have just begun lambing, and that keeps everyone on task for the month of February,” Carver said. “This is an important time of year in our operation.”Like the food so often taken for granted in this country, it is easy for the amazing process required for clothing (and the agricultural production of the raw materials used to make it) to be under appreciated. It is great to see a unique partnership between agriculture and the fashion industry showcased on an international stage that only comes around every four years. That makes everything about the Winter Olympics a little more exciting, even curling. For more about the process of taking wool from the ranch to a final Ralph Lauren Olympic uniform, check out this well-done video made prior to the 2014 Olympics with Imperial Stock Ranch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=121&v=z7BDDj_NBEQlast_img read more
