Selections on for PNG U19 Rugby Nines

first_imgWith three months to go before the Commonwealth Games in Scotland, selections for the PNG U19 Rugby Nines team is now underway.PNG Rugby Football League will be sending a contingent of 20, made up of 15 players and five officials.Selections are being worked out by PNGRFL development officers during competitions at the regional level where they will be selecting six players each from the provinces.The selected players will travel to Lae to participate in the national trials from June 8-9 to select 20 players who will be at a one week training camp.Those selected will be flown to Port Moresby to train, using the PNG Hunters facilities at the Bomana Training College a week before travelling to Scotland.PNGRFL national development manager Toksy Nema confirmed that the 20 man training squad will be trimmed to the final 15 players.He said following that, they were expecting the best team among the many talents in PNG to travel to Glasgow on June 23 for the Games.The Commonwealth Games is scheduled to be run over June 23-August 3.Meantime, PNG will be sending 12 codes to the Games including athletics, boxing, judo, lawn bowls, swimming, rugby 9s, rugby sevens, squash, table tennis, triathlon and weightlifting.last_img read more
