German Navy to Upgrade Its Amphibious Capabilities

first_img View post tag: Naval Authorities View post tag: capabilities The German Navy is looking to expand its amphibious capabilities and intensify its maritime cooperation with the Netherlands. That is why the German fleet commander, Rear Admiral Thomas Jugel, paid a 2-day visit to the naval base in Den Helder and the amphibious centre of expertise on the island of Texel.Accompanied by the Dutch Commodore Peter Lenselink, Rear Admiral Jugel  examined and discussed all facets of amphibious operations. One of the locations for these discussions was the landing platform dock HNLMS Johan de Witt. The vessel hosted the two naval officers’ discussion on how cooperation between their two countries can be fleshed out.By further developing and expanding its amphibious capabilities, Germany hopes to meet the capability requirements of the European Amphibious Initiative. This initiative enables close amphibious interoperability between European countries. With the firm intention of joining this initiative, Germany is exchanging views on the work-up programme for the fleet and marines and its application to existing German units.[mappress]Naval Today Staff, February 20, 2013; Image: Dutch MoD German Navy to Upgrade Its Amphibious Capabilities Share this article View post tag: News by topic February 20, 2013center_img View post tag: German View post tag: its View post tag: upgrade View post tag: Navy Back to overview,Home naval-today German Navy to Upgrade Its Amphibious Capabilities View post tag: Amphibiouslast_img read more

Ocean City Vacation Rental Website Offers Hot July Promotion

first_imgBy MADDY VITALEOcean City’s Vacation Rental website is having a great first summer in Ocean City and will soon be ending its $99 introductory offer for new owners to advertise on their website for the 2021 rental season.Duane Watlington, founder of Vacation Rentals Jersey Shore LLC, said there are plenty of reasons why the vacation rental website has taken off since being launched this year.“It provides a lot of ways to connect with no hidden fees or taxes,” he noted. With the promotional offer of $99 ending by July 31, Watlington said owners should take advantage of the rental listing site now.“For $99, what have you got to lose?” Watlington said. “If you get just one rental from it, it more than pays for itself. This is it. It will never be as low again.”Through the end of July, new owners in Ocean City who advertise with VROCNJ for the 2021 rental season will receive 60 percent off any of their annual subscription plans. So, for as little as $99 (normally $249), they can put a listing to work for owners for the next year.“It’s never too soon to start advertising for next summer. In fact, we started seeing search inquiries for summer 2021 back in early June.” Watlington said. “There will never be a better time to sign up. Take advantage of introductory pricing and get a head start on your 2021 rental season.”These homes at 820 and 824 Wesley Avenue are two of many properties to choose from. (Photo courtesy of Duane Watlington)Watlington explained that as more property owners sign up, and more importantly, as the site’s popularity on Google grows, discounts will be phased out.Now is the time to take advantage of the special offers, he said. With the Ocean City website approaching 200 listings since being launched in the fall, it is growing in both properties and the number of views. In just the last 30 days, from June 22 to July 21, there have been over 1,000 inquiries about the properties.Watlington, a real estate agent, started with a website dedicated to Long Beach Island (LBI) four years ago and another in the Wildwoods last year.“It is more than double the inquiries we had on our LBI website in our first year for the same time period,” Watlington said. “It shows Ocean City is growing at twice the rate.”And most importantly, he emphasized, it highlights the exposure owners are gaining from listing on the Ocean City rental website.“Ocean City is our fastest growing website, hands down,” Watlington said.Watlington pointed to many reasons rental owners are very satisfied with the three websites for Ocean City, LBI and the Wildwoods. The service is reasonable, there are no booking fees or taxes or no delayed payments – vacationers book and pay directly to the owner.Owners have direct communication with their guests, and they have complete control of the listings, policies, and payment methods. In addition, local VROCNJ staff are on hand and available to help with just a phone call or an email. All of the listings come with a “For Rent” sign featuring the specific listing on the front to be displayed on the rental property.“We are following a proven business model and marketing strategy that has worked before and is working again, even faster this time,” Watlington said.“We are super-excited to now be serving OCNJ and looking forward to helping our owners fill their rental weeks for 2021,” he said. For more information, visit or contact Duane Watlington at 609-391-2613 or email him at mailto:[email protected] Ocean City vacation rentals such as this property on Wesley Avenue can be found on the listing website read more

Cashless ATM extends banking’s reach

first_img2 September 2013South Africa’s First National Bank (FNB) has unveiled an innovative automatic teller machine (ATM) capable of delivering full digital banking via retail outlets to remote rural areas beyond the business reach of conventional ATMs.FNB’s Slimline ATM offers a large touch screen with an integrated camera, a card reader for CHIP and PIN enabled cards, and a numeric keypad.Instead of dispensing cash, the Slimline ATM issues a slip that can be cashed at a retailer’s till, crediting the retailer’s account and thus lowering the risk and cost of holding additional cash in the shop.FNB has already installed 960 Slimline ATMs in South Africa, and is extending Slimlines across its African subsidiaries, with installations under way in Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Swaziland and Tanzania.Aziz Cassim, head of self-service channels at FNB, described the Slimline as “a unique ATM designed specifically for emerging market and lower income needs”, adding: “Slimline also has great potential across all our market segments from personal to business and commercial due to its deep digital banking ability.”Access to an ATM is a critical when enabling greater access to banking. According to the Finscope Consumer Survey of 2012, people in the lowest income groups spend nearly 100% more time accessing an ATM than people in middle and upper income groups. The survey showed that poorer customers took 47 minutes to access an ATM while better-off customers were able to do this in 23 minutes.“Slimlines represent a wonderful, mutually beneficial relationship for the retailer, bank and customer,” Cassim said.“While our now-retired mini-ATMs offered typical kiosk banking or voucher banking, Slimline approximates online banking with PIN and image verification. The new devices offer a rich banking platform to customers in remote locations, and we plan to expand services in coming months.”SAinfo reporterlast_img read more

Defending champion Warriors get on roll with strong defense

first_img“You can’t win without that,” Memphis center Marc Gasol said. “Even if you look at teams like Golden State, you see a team that obviously has a lot of firepower, their defense is really outstanding, how they all move together at the same time, how they all shift as a unit from one side to the other … Then they give you 125 points, too. But they really do play a lot of great defense.”Against the T-Wolves, Golden State blocked nine shots — its 11th time in 12 games with at least seven swats — three by reserve Omri Casspi and another two from Draymond Green, and didn’t allow a 20-point performance by Minnesota. Nick Young came off the bench to make a career-high four steals in 20-plus minutes.“It’s finally coming along. We’re starting to put it together,” Green said. “We’re taking more ownership in one-on-one defense. We’ve just locked in more on one-on-one defense and taking on the challenge.”Part of that, according to player development coach Chris DeMarco, is “being the aggressors, being active defensively and trusting that the guys around us will help if we get beat.”While a handful of turnovers led to easy baskets by Minnesota, for the most part the Warriors were disciplined in their defensive assignments. It has been that way for a stretch of games now.It didn’t hurt Golden State shot 65.9 percent after halftime in pulling away from the overmatched Timberwolves, who were on a roll with five straight wins before the stop in Oakland.“I think you learn a lot from playing against them because that’s what a championship team looks like. They play hard. They play together. You look at their willingness to sacrifice for each other and make plays,” T-Wolves coach Tom Thibodeau said. “They had 37 assists on 48 baskets. Their defense over the last five games has been back to what their defense is. That’s why they’ve been able to win the way they’ve won. I think their willingness to sacrifice and play for each other is what makes them great. They take good shots. They make the game easy for each other. When you do that, the results will be good.”___AP Sports Writer Teresa M. Walker contributed to this report. Ezra Shaw/Getty Images/AFPOAKLAND, Calif. — Defense has been the theme from Day 1 for the Golden State Warriors, determined to do all the little things even better on both ends of the floor on the heels of their second NBA championship in three years. They’re blocking shots. Jumping into the passing lanes for timely steals. Getting hands in the faces of shooters.ADVERTISEMENT “I know if we focus on taking care of the basketball and playing solid defense, and focusing on that, and really, hopefully, regardless of how our offense is, we’ll be in a good position to win games,” Curry said.Golden State limited the Timberwolves to 41.3 percent from the floor and a dismal 5 of 24 on 3-pointers on the way to winning its fifth straight.“You saw how beautiful that was in the second half with 37 assists overall. It’s all about taking care of the ball and defending,” Kerr said. “The defense part I’m really pleased with. I think this is about our fifth straight really good defensive effort we have had so that’s a great sign.”He gave his team a day off Thursday before getting back to work Friday in preparation for Philadelphia.Other teams and opposing players notice the Warriors’ attention to detail on the defensive end, even if their high-flying offensive show is typically the focus of scouting reports and film sessions.ADVERTISEMENT Don’t miss out on the latest news and information. Football: India out of Olympic race after draw with Qatar

first_imgIndian football team paid the price for wasting a crucial penalty as they could manage only a 1-1 draw against much fancied Qatar and crashed out of the Olympic qualifiers in Pune on Thursday.India went into the second leg of the qualifiers needing a 2-0 win to make it to the final round having lost 1-3 in Doha in the first leg and Lalrindika Ralte’s miss from the spot kick in the 19th minute proved costly for Desmond Bulpin’s U-23 boys.Considering this, it’s high time Indian football gets some foreign help. The home side went ahead in the 53rd minute with Qatar conceding an own goal and had it been 2-0 at that stage, India could have tried defending the scoreline. In the end, however, Qatar went through to the final round on 4-2 aggregate.Qatar did not have the kind of upper-hand they had enjoyed at home on June 19. This was mainly due to delay in their arrival as they didn’t get requisite clearance earlier to land their chartered flight at the Pune airport.Although Qatar looked slightly better in the first half, it was difficult to separate the two sides in the second session with India getting a few opportunities.Despite failing to advance to the final round, Desmond Bulpin’s boys will end their campaign with their heads held high. Bulpin began with the same XI that played in Doha and the 5000-strong crowd at the Shiv Chhatrapati Stadium at Balewadi were on their feet when India were awarded a penalty in the 19th minute after Jeje Lalpekhlua’s shot was handled by Murad Naji.advertisementHowever, Lalrindika’s low left- footer was brilliantly saved by Qatar goalkeeper Al Sheeb to the stunned silence of the home fans.Al Sheeb, however, turned villain in the 53rd minute when his costly mistake helped India gain lead.Khaled Muftah sent in a back pass from the right flank but Al sheeb let the innocuous ball slip with Jibon Singh charging at him.Sensing the chance of making it to the final round with another goal, India pressed hard and Jeje should have done the job for India in the 73rd minute but he disappointed the sizeable crowd.Jeje, who had scored the lone goal for India in their 1- 3 loss in the first leg, was all alone inside Qatar box but his feeble angular left-footer went straight to the goalkeeper. As if India were penalised for Jeje’s mistake, Qatar equalised in the next minute (74th) to seal their place in the final round.Following a throw- in from the right flank, Fadhl Omar sent a perfect floater for Mohamed Salah Elnee on the left and the latter, who was left free inside the box by Abhishek Das, sent the ball past goalkeeper Laxmikant Kattimani with a first time shot that crashed into the net.- With inputs from PTIFor more news on India, click here. For more news on Business, click here. For more news on Movies, click here. For more news on Sports, click here.last_img read more

Vector: first network interface for Car2x/V2X communication

first_img Continue Reading Previous Efficient web server technology for resource-constrained microcontrollersNext Vecow: expandable GPU computing system with NVIDIA GeForce RTX graphics Vector is presenting the VN4610 network interface – its first special solution for IEEE-802.11p and CAN-(FD) based applications. As an interface to the CANoe.Car2x test tool, the interface advances 802.11p-based ECUs to production readiness quickly. The VN4610 is a network interface with a USB interface for accessing IEEE-802.11p and CAN-(FD) networks. Users benefit from the ease of receiving and sending IEEE-802.11p messages in implementing their Car2x-/V2X applications. The received IEEE-802.11p messages are transferred to the application time-synchronous to the CAN-(FD) messages. The built-in GNSS receiver provides the GNSS time and the current GNSS position. The VN4610 satisfies all technical hardware requirements for safely testing DSRC applications over IEEE-802.11p radio channels. It routes all received messages from the two radio channels, unfiltered, to a test tool such as CANoe.Car2x for analysis. The advantage for the developer is that messages can be analyzed which would be rejected by an ECU due to timing, geo information or Car2x/V2X protocol errors. In addition, latency measurements can also be performed because the time stamps of messages are synchronized to the bus channels. In interplay with the CANoe.Car2x test tool, the VN4610 offers a tuned solution for creating an environment simulation for testing Car2x/V2X applications. The user uses the VN4610 interface to send the transmitted messages and configures the communication parameters for the various tests – easily and individually.Share this:TwitterFacebookLinkedInMoreRedditTumblrPinterestWhatsAppSkypePocketTelegram Tags: Tools & Software last_img read more
