Walcott for England! Wenger ‘happy’ for winger to be included in squad

first_img1 Theo Walcott Arsene Wenger insists he will have no issue with Theo Walcott joining up with England later this month. The flying winger has returned to action after missing around nine months, and the World Cup in Brazil, with a knee injury he sustained in an FA Cup tie against Tottenham last January. He came off the bench for the final ten minutes of Arsenal’s 3-0 win over Burnley on Saturday and is set to play a part against Anderlecht in the Champions League on Tuesday night. And Wenger won’t stop him playing for England if Roy Hodgson picks him for the upcoming Euro 2016 qualifier against Slovenia at Wembley and the friendly in Scotland. In fact, the Frenchman believes being involved with the national team will benefit the 25-year-old in his recovery. He said: “Hopefully Theo will come on and have no setbacks now, but we always have to be cautious. The battle is not won yet – at nine or ten months out, you have ups or downs and I will have to manage that well.“If he wants to go [with England], I am happy for him to go and train, and maybe get a few minutes. I am happy for that because it will help his development. Is he completely ready? I think it is a bit early, but to be in the squad would be good for him.”last_img read more
