Navy arrests eight Indian fishermen off Point Pedro

The Navy arrested eight Indian fishermen off Point Pedro in the North last night.The Navy media unit said that fast attack craft belonging to the Northern Naval Command arrested the Indian fishing while they were engaged in illegal fishing activities in Sri Lankan waters, about 15 nm north of Point Pedro. A trawler used by the fishermen was also taken into custody.The fishermen were brought to the naval base, SLNS Uththara in Kankesanthurai and were handed over to the Jaffna Assistant Fisheries Director for onward legal action. read more
